The Nigerian government has ordered British Airways (BA) to cut the number of flights it operates from London to Lagos from the current daily service to three a week. The shock diktat comes into force from November 8, resulting in serious capacity issues on a route where demand already massively outstrips supply.
A BA spokesman said: “The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has restricted British Airways flights to Lagos from next week. They have cited operational reasons for this imposition. “It appears that British Airways is the only airline to be singled out by these restrictions. We are doing all we can to resolve this issue.”
