The Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, yesterday commissioned an ultra modern art Gallery named after Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka in recognition of his role in promoting African cultural heritage.
Declaring the 2012 Lagos Black Heritage Festival open at the Freedom Park on the Lagos Island, Fashola said that the art gallery christened Kongi Harvest Arts Gallery was named after the literary giant in appreciation of his immense contribution to the development of African Art.
He said, "This also signals the beginning of our Tourists' week that climaxes with the carnival that builds up with boat regatta, beauty pageant and so many other events that will also take place in this very hallowed ground of the freedom park. To our guests from within and outside the country and the participants from within and from other parts of the world, I welcome you warmly."
