The African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) is one of the most prestigious and glamorous awards that is set up to recognize African ingenuity in film making. It can rival the Oscars of Hollywood because of the stiff competition that is given by film makers on the continent.
The first awards ceremony was held in 2005 with the best actor going to Richard Mofe Damijo and Genevive nnaji taking the best actress award.
This years awards celebration which will be held in April in Nigeria promises to be more exciting and competitive since 328 entries have been received according to sources close to Showtime Ghana
The 328 entries submitted for AMAA 2012 include 88 short films, 57 documentaries, 43 entries from Africans in Diaspora, 6 animations and 134 feature films.
According to our source, about 24 of the entries came from Ghana.
