The list is compiled according to estimated wealth in cash and assets and reads like a who-is-who of African politics. Check it out:
1. Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo (est. $65 Billion) – This is the stupendously wealthy President of Equatorial Guinea who has been at the helm since 1979. As in, if Forbes neglected the very irrelevant matter of corruption, this guy is the richest man in the world
2. Muammar al-Gaddafi ($56 Billion) - Leader and Guide of the Revolution, The Libyan Leader, The colonel and wannabe future president of Africa! No wonder he doesn’t take s**t from the West. He happens to be wealthier than Warren Buffet- eat that Americans!
3. Dr. Mike Adenuga ($27 Billion) - Chairman of Globacom, a Telecommunications company. This is the first one on the list who is not a politician and he seems to have done very well for himself.
4. Onsi Sawiris ($20 Billion) - The Egyptian Businessman who heads Orascom, Telecommunications Company which is the largest Telkom Company in North Africa and the Middle East.
5. Mohammed Al Amoudi ($ 9 Billion) -Mohammed Al Amoudi is an Ethiopian Business man, Oil, Gas, Mining, Hotels, Agriculture and hospitals. Yes, they are not all long distance runners and twilight workers!
6. Aliko Dangote ($ 4 Billion) - This Nigerian brodah is a Businessman-oh. His company, Dankotes businesses deals in food processing, cement manufacturing and freight. You know the way Kenyans casually call each other “chief?” Well, for this guy he can afford a chiefdom if he decides!
7. Strive Masiyiwa ($ 3.5 Billion) - He is referred to as the "Bill Gates of Africa." He is a Zimbabwean businessman and cell phone pioneer who founded Econet Wireless.
8. Robert Mugabe ($ 3 Billion) -President of Zimbabwe...CV tosha!
9. Mohamed Fayed ($ 3 Billion) - The Eqyptian Businessman who’s Business Interests include Harrods department store in London and Fulham Football Club- an English Premiership football club. You’ll also kumbuka that he was very close to being father-in-law to the late Princess Diana.
10. Ibru Family ($ 2.5 Billion) -Hotels and Banking in Africa, Nigerian Businesses. And they are sooo private about it, we have nothing else to say about them.
11. Femi Otedola ($ 2 Billion) - Nigerian Business man. His Business Interests include Zenon Oil and other Oil Products.
12. Yoweri Museveni ($ 1.7 Billion) - Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was born into a family of cattle keepers in Ankole, Western Uganda. His name was taken from the Abasuveni, who were Ugandan servicemen in the Seventh Regiment of the Kings African rifles. When he took over through a military coup, Uganda's economy began to grow steadily and poverty levels dropped by 45%.
Mr Museveni has been praised for liberalising the economy and he appealed to the Asian business community expelled by Idi Amin to return and invest. Primary & Secondary school education enrolment has doubled, HIV levels have dropped because of an impressive anti-Aids campaign spear-headed by the president.
Other than that, he wants to add Migingo/Mijinjo to his wealth and he thinks “jaruoz are crazeey.”
13. Olusegun Obasanjo ($ 1.3 Billion) - Former President of Nigeria and Commander in chief of the corruption of Naija! This jamaa ameiba hata Moi akamuogopa!
14. Anis Haggar ($ 1.3 Billion) -Sudanese industrialist. I have nothing against them but I honestly can’t believe there is a Sudanese on this list.
15. Mo Ibrahim ($ 1.2 Billion) - A Sudanese, the founder of Celtel International. TWO Suuds??? What is the world coming to?!
16. Daniel Toritich Arap Moi ( $ 1.2 Billion) - President of Kenya 1978 – 2002.... Na hiyo ni maendelo!
17. Musa Danjuma (est. $ 1.2 Billion) - A Nigerian Businessman whose Business interests include real estate and shipping.
18. Patrice Motsepe (est. $ 1.2 Billion) - South African entrepreneur, has Interests in gold, ferrous metals, base metals, and platinum. And as such is very close pals with Jay-Z and 50 Cent just to name a few.
19. Madhvani Family (est. $ 800 Million) - A Ugandan Business man whose Business interests include Uganda Tourism Board and Hotels. He is said to be in close cahoots with Bwana Museveni...I guess he has also given hi the furu furu condisheen!
20. Cyril Ramaphosa (est. $ 600 Million) - Cyril Ramaphosa is a South African business man and politician. His Business interests include Shaduka Holdings, Bidvest. Group, MTN Group and SASRIA Limited.
