Internationally acclaimed lager beer, Heineken, has been commended for its support of a charity program staged recently at the Lagos Yacht Club.
The event, themed ‘Sail Around the World’, had sailing teams representing 14 nationalities in attendance.
Captain of the Lagos Yacht Club, Julian Calvin at the weekend said the annual event has been a success story because of the support it has received from Heineken and urged other corporate bodies to emulate the brand.
This is not the first time the Heineken brand will be part of the program which this year included the Ibero-American Group which is a voluntary, non-profit organisation founded over 30 years ago by expatriate Spanish and Portuguese speaking women in Nigeria.
Over the years the charity group have been helping different institutions within Lagos such as the Sacred Heart Clinic and the Vocational Centre in Apapa. They have also been involved with the rehabilitation of a primary school in Lekki, as well as an orphanage in Ketu.
Other participants in the one-day event were teams representing Texas, South Africa, England, Scotland, Ireland, Mexico, Italy, Nigeria, Thailand, Denmark, USA and Canada, as well as Lebanon.
