''ANITA'' She's My Laughter and my Tears, Paul Okoye of P-Square Reveals...
Well, the latest is that, Paul, the other half of P Square has revealed that his lover of long standing, Anita is the only lady who makes him laughs and at the same time makes him cry.
"I started dating her when I was nobody and today, she has become part of me. She is my best friend and I am not seeing her as my girlfriend because she is more than that. If it were somebody I met when my career is blooming, I am sure we would have been having problems. But she is somebody who doesn't bother about who I am.
She has this believe of do your own thing and let me do mine. She is a nice person even though every woman has her fault. She is in fact the best thing and the worst thing. When I say best, she is the best thing that makes me happy but she is also the only thing that makes me sad. Whenever she does something that hurts, it will hurt me the more. If we both have a quarrel, the pain is worse. Na she dey sweet pass and at the same time, na she dey pain pass." He said
Although, Paul has over the years not been linked to any lady apart from Anita, his friend say, Paul, we learnt, has successfully shielded his love life from prying eyes, and made no news ever about his romance with any lady until months back when he opens up about Anita and talks passionately about her.

The attractions for Ghanaian universities, About 75,000 Nigerians Now Study in Ghana
In this report, The Nation Online reports on why Nigerian students are trooping to Ghana for university education.
LACK OF ADMISSION OPPORTUNITIES IN NIGERIA
With the large number of qualified students who are unable to get university admission in Nigeria, Ghanaian universities and others in neighbouring West African region have become major attractions. According to a Nigerian student studying in a Ghanaian university, "it not that Nigerians prefer Ghanaian universities… it's just that to gain admission into Ghanaian universities is relatively easier than our universities in Nigeria. Trying to get admission in Nigeria is like gambling which is not the case in Ghana. If you are qualified and you can pay for it you will get admission".
UNINTERRUPTED ACADEMIC CALENDAR
Regular disruption of academic calendar due to frequent strikes by both academic and non-academic staff of Nigerian Universities has necessitated students spending more years than expected for various courses. In Ghana, it is reported that there is hardly cases of strikes in Universities making it possible for students to graduate on schedule. The academic session is said to be stable and predictable.
BETTER PERCEPTION OF GHANA'S EDUCATION SYSTEM
Despite having more universities with acclaimed academicians and professionals home and in abroad, the Ghanaian educational system is still perceived to be better than that of Nigeria globally. The rising image of Ghana as a stable democracy has obviously rubbed off on the rating of its educational institutions whose certificates are said to be well respected in globally. For some Nigeria, studying in Ghana is like studying abroad and getting an international certificate which can enhance their chances in for post graduate studies and job search.
COST IS NOT A FACTOR
Except for a few top range private universities in Nigeria, it is comparatively more expensive to study in Ghana. The average tuition fee for private universities in Ghana attended by majority of the Nigerian students in the country is put at about $2500, while international students pay much higher in public universities. Many parents are ready to pay the high cost as long as their children can get the admission and quality education.

THE LEGEND Chinua Achebe Finally Releases Long Awaited Biafran War Memoirs
"There Was A Country: A Personal History of Biafra" chronicles Achebe's experiences during Nigeria's 1967-1970 civil war, which saw his native eastern region, dominated by the Igbo ethnic group, secede as the Republic of Biafra.
The split came largely in response to massacres of Igbos in Nigeria's north and saw Achebe, author of the revered novel "Things Fall Apart," speak out forcefully in support of the move.
His memoir was released in Britain on Thursday and will be available in Nigeria shortly after, said publishers Allen Lane, a division of Penguin. Its release in the United States is set for October 11.
The tensions that ignited the Biafran conflict, which left around one million people dead, including many from starvation, are largely settled. Today, sporadic calls for greater Igbo autonomy have limited impact in Nigerian politics.
Experts, however, say a Biafra memoir from the 81-year-old Achebe is urgently needed in a country that remains deeply fractured on other levels, despite the book's focus on events that happened more than four decades ago.
"Achebe is sustaining the debate on integration, on unity and on oneness," said Dapo Thomas, a history professor at Lagos State University.
"Until there is a sovereign agreement from the peasants to the elite that we want to remain as one, we must continue that debate. A nation cannot remain comatose while these issues are unresolved."

Kim Kardashian Talks About 32nd Birthday Plans, What She Wants From Kanye West...
So what kind of bday gift does the E! star want from her rapper beau?
"See the thing is, my boyfriend, he has such good taste that I don't need to [tell him],
" Kardashian told 'E' last night at her Midori Makeover event in Santa Monica.
"Before I would be like, 'OK, this is what I want.'" "Maybe I want an iPhone 5," the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star added with a smile. "I kind of want that." Kardashian says she doesn't have any big party plans for her special day.
"I'm working, for like, three months straight with just a couple days off, so I would love to relax a little bit," she dished. "I'm not so into a 32nd birthday. Doesn't do it for me, so I don't really care. Just hanging out with the family."
Speaking of work, Kardashian has been in Florida filming a new season of Kourtney & Kim Take Miami (which will air Jan. 2013). "I'm already exhausted and it's only week one," she laughed. "From us getting a house, not getting a house, staying in a hotel with Kourtney's million kids, with her just wanting to be a mom all day long, me wanting to explore Miami, it's exhausting. That's the best word I that I can describe it with."

THE GENUINE REASONS WHY THERE'S A FUEL SCARCITY...
Lucky me. As I stepped out of church last Sunday, reports of a looming fuel crisis started playing on my mind. I gently drove to a filling station, loaded my tank and triumphantly headed home. It was N97 per litre, thank God. The following day, I went out with my wife's car and decided to fill up the tank to be better prepared for the crisis ahead. Alas, I was told to pay N110 per litre at a filling station along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. "Not so fast," I mumbled and left the station, not too sure if I was taking a hopeless gamble. It worked. I got petrol for N100 per litre a few metres away. With our cars now fully loaded, I was ready to confront the week ahead like a warrior.
Then, I paused. What's going on? A few weeks ago, there were fuel queues in Abuja. Now, Lagos has joined the queue. The official line was that because of a broken pipeline at Arepo, Ogun State, supplies were being affected. I decided to dig deeper. There was no broken pipeline in Abuja, yet the city is experiencing shortages. I made a few calls to those who should know the true picture. It became clear to me that there was more to it than meets the eye. Somebody put it more brutally: "The current shortage is a tip of the iceberg. If care is not taken, we are going to be in this till December." I sighed.
What are the issues? I will try to simplify things as much as possible. Last year, there was this fuel subsidy scam that rocked Nigeria. I call it "the biggest fraud in the history of Nigeria". Dubious characters were given licences to import fuel. Most of them did not import a drop. But with the connivance of banks and government officials, non-existent vessels offloaded non-existent fuel for onward transmission to non-existence tank farms. The subsidy bill came to about N2.19 trillion for 2011 alone. Private jets (now fondly called "PJ" by the nouveau riche) flooded the tarmacs of our airports, most of them owned by the emergency "subsidy billionaires".
After seeing the hefty bill, President Goodluck Jonathan decided—in anger, I suppose—to remove fuel subsidy. Many of us cried foul, maintaining that we must first distinguish between "fuel subsidy" and "fake subsidy" before deciding on the way forward. There were massive public protests against the increase in petrol price. Truth be told, Jonathan has not recovered from the damage the protests inflicted on his relationship with ordinary Nigerians. Nevertheless, he sought to address the concerns raised by many well-meaning Nigerians on how to tackle the scam. The new Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Product Pricing and Regulatory Agency (PPPRA), Mr. Reginald Stanley, moved to sanitise the import regime.
To be fair to Stanley, he has set up an effective system to check the fraud. Some of the measures include appointment of independent inspectors of imported products; submission of financing documents by marketers; submission of contractual agreements between marketers/importers and traders/suppliers; a satellite-based monitoring of vessels bringing products to Nigeria; etc. He inherited an unwieldy list of 125 importers. New qualification and verification measures have reduced that to just 39. From a volume of 5 billion litres of petrol imported in the first quarter of 2012, importation is down to 4.20 billion litres in the third quarter. Daily consumption has crashed from the bogus 59 million litres per day to about 30 million litres now.
The Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede Committee did a great job of identifying the suspected subsidy scammers. The names of the indicted marketers/importers, some of them very powerful individuals, were made public. The tighter measures put in place by the PPPRA, along with the Budget Office and the Debt Management Office, were implemented by the Ministry of Finance, which now verifies subsidy claims, unlike before. And we've seen good results. For instance, as at June 2011, government had paid N1 trillion as subsidy for the year. But as at August 2012, government had paid only N78.8 billion, although with N43.25 billion still outstanding after the settlement of another N56.75 billion last week. Put together, that is N178.8 billion only for eight months. At this rate, the actual subsidy bill for 2012 could be about N300 billion, compared to N2.19 trillion last year! Not even the increase in pump price from N65 to N97 per litre can explain the huge difference. We were just being ripped off in the past, simple as that.
Now, why should there be fuel shortage now? That takes us to another issue: the Federal Government was obviously trying not to overshoot the subsidy vote in the 2012 budget. With no realistic data from the petroleum industry amidst allegations of fraud, the government had decided to play safe by using consumption figures of 2009. It initially arrived at N1.314 trillion for this year, but revised it to the poetic N888 billion after the increase in petrol price in January. It was a safe thing to do then amidst public anger over the subsidy scam.
But it soon dawned on the government that the figure might be insufficient. The governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, was the first to raise the alarm. Roughly N450 billion of the N888 billion subsidy vote for 2012 is for 2011 arrears alone! The government inevitably ran into the dilemma over how to pay the genuine importers whose claims have been verified under the new regime, with the products already consumed. With this delay in the payments, many marketers developed cold feet. They drastically scaled down or stopped importation altogether to protect themselves. Put simply, we are not importing enough to meet consumption. That, in a large nutshell, is what is responsible for the latest fuel queues.
Last week, finance minister, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, moved to douse the crisis by paying more verified claims for 2012. Hopefully, this will ease the supply crisis. It seems the subsidy bazaar is coming to an end. But the genuine importers and marketers are, without a doubt, justified to ask for their pay. And unless they are paid consistently and on time, the crisis will continue in different episodes.
& ONE OTHER THING...
QUIET QAQA
Last weekend, the joint military task force claimed to have attacked the hideout of Boko Haram militants in Kano and killed key leaders, including "Abu Qaqa", who regularly issued statements on behalf of the group. Although I would readily concede that the security agencies are trying their best given the serious limitations hampering their operations, I was a bit sceptical about the "Abu Qaqa" matter. But given that the killing is yet to be denied by "Abu Qaqa" himself, maybe there is some truth in it. In which case, we must continue to encourage and support the agencies to keep it going. We shall win the war. It's winning the peace that I doubt..

NIGERIA GOT TALENT: The popular talent reality show debuts in Nigeria
The show premiered and will air weekly on Silverbird TV (6pm), TVC (9pm), AIT (10: 30 pm), Soundcity (DSTV, 6:30pm) and for viewers in the United Kingdom, HITV (8pm). The show took a thrilling twist as 11-year-old Toke Salami who was accompanied by her family members to the Ibadan auditions put up a heartfelt performance of a gospel song. Nathaniel wowed the crowd using his whole body, especially his mouth to produce a full range of beats, and the Ayan Agalu Cultural Group were also not left behind in the era of approval for the semi final stage, after showcasing their talent which involved passing messages across with the use of the talking drum.
Some contestants were moved to the next round of the show but sadly, some like Stephen Faunwei; whose magic trick turned ordinary paper to a thousand naira - and the Ever Blazer group did not please the judges.
The talent train made a stop at Port Harcourt, performers including the 'Padlock Display' by a man that calls himself, 'Hero of Africa' who hung padlocks on his eye lids. Thankfully, another 24 year old, Marilyn Ogechi redeemed the garden city by showcasing a unique talent of playing the saxophone with her hands. She got a go ahead from the judges to the semi final round.
The Airtel sponsored show will air on TV stations across the country from September to December 2012. The Got Talent franchise worldwide, which is in its sixth year, has produced many notable performers in the last couple of years including Diversity, Bianca Ryan and Britain's Got Talent's 2009 1st runner up Susan Boyle, whose debut album became the fastest selling UK debut album of all time, selling over 3 million copies in the U.S.
Nigeria's Got Talent is sponsored by Airtel and supported by Cool FM, Wazobia FM, Nigeria Info 99.3 FM and Tasty Fried Chicken

ML VOICES: Janet Odehgbe set on fire by her hubby in Lagos!
According to the woman, her husband, Kehinde Adesanmoye, approached her as she was preparing Indomie to sell to her customers and poured petrol on her body which immediately caught fire and burnt her until she could get help from passers-by who helped her extinguish the fire and
took her to the hospital.
She said, "I saw him coming towards me,
as he got nearer, he ordered my
customer to leave and as I tried to run for my dear life, he poured petrol on me and fire caught up with me immediately.
Passers-by rescued me and ran after him
to fight him, but immediately they noticed it was him, they all went to their various homes. Then some of them took me to the Police station and from there I was taken to Peaceful Convalescent Center, Alhaji Obe Street, Ejigbo Lagos."
She explained that trouble started on
September 8, 2012 when they both
attended a naming ceremony of a mutual
friend who lives close to their residence at 22, Olaoluwa Street, Abaranje, Ikotun.
She said, "As we got to the party, my
friends who were also present were
hailing me, calling me 'Indomie', because
I was known for selling Indomie. I was
invited to sit on the chairs they have
organized for friends. Adesanmoye was
sitting right beside me.
"After some time, my friend, a vulcanizer,
Taye offered me a bottle of wine, but I
rejected it at the first instance because I
was on my menstrual period and I don't
want to take anything alcoholic. But
when the pressure from my friends was
too much, pestering me to take the wine,
I decided to take a cup.
"Immediately Adesanmoye saw me finish
the cup of wine, he got up and started
going. I ran after him to ask what went
wrong. To my surprise, he started
abusing me and asking why do I have to
collect a drink from a friend in a party
while he was sitting right beside me, and
why do I have to kiss a friend in the party
too?"
She accused Adesanmoye, 39, of being a
wife-beater who always threatens her
whenever she tries to abandon the
relationship.
"My husband has always been jealous.
He used to beat me every time under any guise and excuse. I have tried several times to leave him but he always
threatened to harm me. I stayed with
him because I was afraid of him and my
life. He always told me that I could never
escape from him, except I leave Lagos
State. Anytime I said I was leaving him,
he would say, no problem, that he would
do something to me that I will not forget.
Now, see what he had done to me," she
said.
Her husband's family were reported to
have approached Janeth for a settlement
offering to pay her a sum of N100,000 for her pains. She however rejected the offer refusing to go back to him.

ML BUZZ: Pop diva Madonna urged fans to vote for President Barack Obama
"And now it is so amazing and incredible to think we have an African American in the White House," she said in an expletive-laden speech, flanked by her troupe of black dancers at the show in Washington DC.
"So y'all better vote for… Obama, okay?" she added, before saying: "For better or for worse, all right, we have a black Muslim in the White House."
"Am I with you, and are you with me?" Madonna — who at one point admitted to feeling "a little dizzy" and repeatedly sucked on a bottled drink and blinked a lot — asked rhetorically, to whoops from the audience.
Overall, 17 percent of 3,000 voters asked in June and July thought Obama was Muslim, despite the Christian church-goer's repeated affirmations of his faith.
Obama is fighting for re-election against Republican challenger Mitt Romney and the country votes in six weeks time, on November 6.
Representatives for the singer did not immediately respond to requests for comment on her widely-reported remarks.

The Crazy Pidgin Language That Unites Africa's Megacity
But for people in Lagos, the mix isn't a problem. As this recent article from the Guardian explains, a fusion language has developed:
In Nigeria's megacity of Lagos, where the country's 500 languages come together in a chaotic medley, the rapid-fire rhythm of pidgin is the symphony of the streets. Africa's largest country is a sometimes fractious mix of 160 million inhabitants divided into 250 ethnicities. But street hustlers and Harvard-educated politicians alike greet each other with: "How you dey?" or "How body?"
The reply can range from a chirpy "I dey fine" to a downbeat "Body dey inside cloth," (literally meaning "I'm still wearing clothes"). Officially known as Naija, Nigerian pidgin is spoken by tens of millions across the country. Current affairs, English and local languages are brewed together to dish up playful imagery at breakneck speed.
Catch any of that?
As hard as it may be for a non-Nigerian to understand, this language has filled a crucial role in the country where 40 percent of adults are illiterate. Having a language that can be shared across hundreds of different cultures is a major unifier. It would be hard to imagine Lagos developing into the megacity it is if people couldn't communicate with each other.
This dictionary offers a few common phrases:
Get road: 1. Right of way while driving e.g. Na mi get road but e come shunt me. 2. Delusions of grandeur e.g. See poor man dey waka as if na im get road.

ML VOICES: True-Life Story, How it all went wrong!
kilometres are so familiar it is easy to go
into auto-pilot and drift into thoughts
only my head can manage. I have had a
long day- work, a reading, and dinner
with a dear friend.
There is a lot on my mind. On the road I
drive through the bends and turns that
lead me to the wide Umar Musa Yar'Adua
express way. In my head I take the
bends and turns that lead me through
the maze that is my mind. To painful
decisions I must take, long overdue. To
thoughts of all the things I planned to do
before I turned thirty. To the fact that I
turn thirty tomorrow and have done none
of them. I try to find my way back to the
beginning of things; to discover how I got
here, this lonely cold place I cannot
recognise.
I am tired. I shake myself awake. My
body fights back- it demands rest and it
demands it now. Five more minutes, I tell
myself, five more minutes until I get
home. I reach the express. Some parts
are lit, some parts are not. I drift again
and in one second it all happens. I run
into a curb at one of the points where the
road bends suddenly. Instinctively I step
on the brakes. It is too late. I lose control
of Sylvanus, my old tired car and we are
screeching at a 45 degree angle.
I hit something else and my head slams into the steering wheel. My head spins and suddenly everything is upside down- my body, Sylvanus and my thoughts.
Sylvanus comes to a halt by the side of
the road. Upside down, I feel the blood
filling up my mouth.
It is fear that actuates my body, makes
me ignore the pain and crawl out through
the shattered glass. Fear that a fire might
break out and I might get trapped in a
burning vehicle. I drag myself to the side
of the road, my white caftan soaked in
blood. I feel open flesh hanging in my
mouth. It is 2am. I am cold. Alone. In
pain. Writers who try to describe blood must not have bled like this. Real blood pouring from ones body does not smell metallic. It smells like fear. Like death.
The first car that stops is a green taxi. I
am lying on the gravel with my right
hand up in the air, calling for help. The
taxi reverses, stops and suddenly drives
off. I think of crawling back to the car to
see if I can find my phone. I am too
scared of a fire and too weak. Slowly as I
slip in and out of consciousness cars
begin to stop and voices begin to
multiply.
"Do you know anybody's number?'
someone asks, from a distance almost as if he is afraid to come close. I shake my head. He is shouting. Everyone seems to be shouting.
"My phone," I manage to say, "in the car.
My phone."
I am afraid the phone might have flown
out of the car during the crash. Someone
finds it.
"Your wife, what is her number?" A man
assumes I am married. I shake my head.
Suggestions fly over my head. My father's
voice, on discovering I was not quite
acting like a virgin, plays in my head: "I
was not up to your age when I got
married."
"His brother."
"His family"
A police van stops. They do not come
close. They make radio calls that have
nothing to do with an ambulance or first
aid. I know at this point I must do
something or bleed out in front of
passers-by arguing about what to do.
"Call Achile," I say to the man holding my
phone, spitting out a glob of blood. I try
to get up. They all scream at me to lie
back down. They try Achile. He is asleep.
They try Al-kasim. He is asleep.
Suddenly I feel like this is it: I am going
to die out here alone. My parents are
nearly 200kilometers away and the only
other relatives who are in this town, are
strangers to me.
"Garki hospital!" I call out as the police
and others argue. "I have a card in Garki
hospital"
Nobody is listening to me and I am
fighting to retain consciousness.
After a few minutes, a man who I later
will learn is Group Captain Onyike, orders
the policemen to stop what they are
doing and take me to the Air force Base
where he lives and where there is a
hospital. I am put at the back of the van
like a ram that has been knocked down
by a car. I am handed my phone and
they drive off. I am afraid that I will lose
consciousness completely and nobody will
know where I am. I manage to send messages to a few people and tweet with the only information I know.
That I am at the back of a police truck
headed for the Air force hospital near the
airport. I pass out.Group Captain Onyike makes sure I get treatment. I come to and the doctor is able to get a friend, Salisu on the phone.
In the morning, the worst has passed. I
am stable. Kasim, Musa and Achile are
around and are taking care of things. I open my eyes and I see the dear friend with whom I had dinner last night. I am not sure how she knew or who called her.
As much as I did not want her to see me
like this, I am grateful that she is here.
And I cannot stop my tears from rolling. But for the quick thinking of an air force officer, she might have been the one to tell stories of my last words, my last thoughts, my last feelings.
This is how to survive a road accident in
Nigeria: Pray. Pray that someone with
quick thinking and hospital contacts runs into you.
Do not expect the police to know what to
do. Do not expect emergency services.
Just pray...
