Nigeria to get first female chief justice...

Nigeria may get its first ever female Chief Justice, if the nomination of Supreme Court Justice Mariam Aloma for the top judicial post is ratified.

Justice Aloma, the first female judge to be sworn in to the country's Supreme Court, has been nominated to succeed current Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Dahiru Musdapher, who is due to retire next month.

In line with the Nigerian Constitution, Justice Musdapher will cease to be a judicial officer on 15 July, the day he will clock the mandatory retirement age of 70 years for Supreme Court Justices.
